It has a stabilized pH between 5.5 and 6.5, which makes it an excellent support for hydroculture. It can also be mixed with other substrates. Expanded clay does not absorb water for a long time, which means that in hydroponic cultivation it does not have a very high safety factor in case the timer or irrigation pump fails. Immerse the expanded clay in the nutrient solution 24 hours before transplanting to stabilize the pH.
It is also widely used to put at the bottom of the pot and thus obtain better drainage, avoiding waterlogging of the pot.
Clay balls allow great aeration and a drainage effect. It contains a highly porous structure derived from expansion at high temperatures. Allows a 15-20% to retain its weight in water. Mixed with the substrates it increases their porosity and provides aeration. It is also highly appreciated as a decorative element placed on the surface of pots and planters. Unalterable material that is free of germs, achieving natural weed suppression. Clay balls are clean, light, decorative and easily manageable.
